Year Four of our partnership with Prada and National Geographic, this global campaign comprises hero films, cutdowns, photo essays, articles and billboards worldwide. The first of two episodes in the series explores the concept of 'Satoumi'; whose premise is to preserve marine ecosystems not by excluding humans, but enhancing them through positive interactions. Both marine biodiversity and human communities can prosper where there is a reciprocal relationship between the two. Japan is combining education, culture and technology to encourage reciprocal relationships between coastal communities and marine ecosystems.

Japan's shift towards ocean advocacy and education is led by high profile public figures, including Sakana-kun, a renowned Japanese ichthyologist (fish specialist), professor and artist. Through his SD Blue Earth (SDBE) Association, he leads the Sakana-kun Exploration Team, an organization that encourages young people to fall in love with the ocean through hands-on activities, workshops and teaching moments designed to foster a lifelong connection with the marine environment.
